Here is the completed Baby Surprise Sweater with collar and buttons. I don't know about you, but I have an awful time sewing buttons onto my knitted sweaters. This time it was even worse because these are shank buttons and ohhhh my, what a nightmare to sew onto a garter stitch sweater. There must be an easier way, so if you have one please let me know.
All in all, I'm so pleased with this, my first foray into BSJ's. I already know what I'd do differently next time, for instance, I wouldn't put in any large contrasting color rows as I did in this one. I would keep them about 4 to 6 rows at most. Also, I would not place buttonholes on both sides of the sweater as Meg Swansen suggested in her DVD because of the trouble I had simply sewing on the little buggers. I think it's a great idea to so do, but these buttons may have been too small for that, OR, I didn't tighten up on my yarn overs and k2tog for the buttonholes? As far as placement went, it was helpful, but for this type button I wound up trying to close the buttonhole with my thread before sewing on the buttons. It's just me, I'm sure, but next time I'll just do one side or the other.
I hope Meg will like my first try and hope that if anyone reading my blog has ever thought of knitting a BSJ, I'd say go for it, and if you're like me and "a picture is worth a thousand words", I heartily recommend Meg's DVD available at SCHOOLHOUSE PRESS.

So, until next time, dear readers, I wish you joy, happiness, and good health!

Hi Laura,

Great Job! For the Bu***ns try 'sewing' them to a flat shirt-style button and putting buttonholes down _both_ bands at the front.

You can then button left over right or right over left (great for if it lasts long enough to be inherited - and it looks like it will!) and you can wash it without the buttons on it at all.

Megs
